Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“After a decade of active duty service in the U.S. Navy as a supply officer, I was ready for a new challenge and an MBA seemed like a perfect way to transition to a new career. I wanted to develop my technical business acumen and leadership skills, as well as have access to senior executives and new networking opportunities.”
Why did you choose the UNC MBA specifically?”
“What set the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA apart, for me, was the spirit of collaboration. I applied to a few other schools, but they had a more individualistic culture. I wanted an environment focused on team effort and collegial support, which would mirror my experience in the military. I was also impressed by the diverse and experienced professionals in my cohort who shared real-world knowledge and enriched the quality of discussions in the classroom.”

Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“I wanted to pursue a degree where I could blend my leadership experience in the Army with an academic experience. The MBA afforded me this opportunity to build upon new and old skills, while also being broad enough to explore new industries. I knew it would be a great transition from the military.”
Why did you choose the UNC MBA specifically?”
I wanted a school where the top priority was teamwork and collaboration, something not unlike my experience serving in the military. But beyond teamwork and collaboration, what I loved most about UNC was the down-to-earth culture when I met with students. I instantly knew UNC was a special place because the students were smart, genuine, engaging and most importantly, they did not have an attitude. At the end of the day, I knew that after two years my peers would be more than colleagues, they would be friends.”

Why did you choose the UNC MBA program specifically?
“I chose the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA because of its strong emphasis on veterans, sustainability, and inclusion in leadership. “I chose to pursue my MBA because, after 7 years of military service, I needed to reset and figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“I was looking to make a pivot. An MBA opened the doors to industries and roles that I never would have had access to in my past. It provided me with a fantastic place to build a foundation of business skills and figure out how to combine that foundation with my military experience and leadership.”
Why did you choose the UNC MBA specifically?
“Community, a new home, and opportunity. In looking for an MBA program there were three elements I was looking to find. I wanted a community that was one I would want to be a part of forever and that would provide me with friends/connections that would last a lifetime. In a similar sense, I was looking for a new place to call home for the next two years. It was important for me to be excited about life outside of the classroom and be in a place that was going to provide an excellent all-around experience. Finally, UNC was going to provide me with the stepping stones to my future. It was most important to me to find a place that offered the best opportunity upon graduation and the best option for my future employment. UNC met my criteria and so much more. “
