Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“After the United States Air Force, I began a career as an Investment Specialist with Merrill Lynch. Following that, I received an offer from T. Rowe Price to work with high-net worth clients as a retirement consultant. Working with individual clients has been extremely rewarding but I’ve always wanted to broaden my scope and provide advice on an industry level. Being a strategic advisor and having a macro-economic impact is extremely appealing to me.”
Why did you choose the Emory University MBA specifically?
“The close-knit community and the small class sizes lends itself to a more personal relationship with classmates and faculty that I truly value. Coming into business school, I was unsure about whether I wanted to pursue Investment Banking or Consulting. However, I knew that regardless of what I chose, there would be an alumni network that I could reach out to for guidance and advice. It also doesn’t hurt that Emory University is located in Metro Atlanta and allows me the luxury of living within reasonable financial means while still having a nightlife.”

MATTHEW MASTRIFORTE
Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“Similar to other communities, Surface Warfare Officers are trained to be “generalist” managers during our time in service. We’re constantly transferring into new roles across multiple departments throughout the ship, allowing us to develop a well-rounded perspective as military leaders. I wanted this same type of experience in the private sector, which is why I ultimately chose to pursue a career in management consulting.”
Why did you choose the Emory University MBA specifically?
“Rather than moving to a small college town for two years (and then move again), having the opportunity to attend a top-ranked business school already in my desired location was a slam-dunk! Veteran inclusion was also a huge factor in my decision; after having several conversations with current Veteran students at Goizueta throughout my application process, it became obvious Emory University was the perfect fit.”
