Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“After a decade of deployments around the world, my wife and I decided that we needed to transition to a different lifestyle. At the time, I wasn’t confident or fully prepared to pursue a new career, especially with young children, and I believed that a full-time MBA experience would be the perfect transition. That said, I wouldn’t trade my amazing experience as a Green Beret for the world.”
Why did you choose the Kelley MBA specifically?
“I learned about the Kelley MBA through an acquaintance in the program. When I attended Experience Weekend, it validated many of his views about Kelley’s culture, academic experience, network, and potential to maneuver my way into sought-after careers. I committed that weekend.”
What parts of the Kelley MBA program did you enjoy most and why?
“A quality education is just one aspect of the Kelley experience. I had two years to focus on myself and my family, in a community that has a lot to offer a young family. The relationships I developed at Kelley have helped guide me and my family through some challenging and awesome times.”
MBA Grad Year: 2018
Military Service: U.S. Army
Undergraduate University: United States Military Academy at West Point

JENNIFER AGNEW
Senior Brand Manager, Pediatric Specialty Nutrition - Abbott
Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“After leaving the military I began putting the project management and team leadership skills that I learned in the military to use in industry. I realized after a few years that I wanted to do more than run the business, which is where your efforts are focused in operational roles. I wanted to move into a role where I would be responsible for driving or growing the business, and that led me back to pursue my MBA and career switch into a role in marketing.”
Why did you choose the Kelley MBA specifically?
“I knew I wanted to be in Marketing and Kelley has a great marketing program. I was also a career switcher, so the full-time program offered the best path for me to do that. I also was living and working in Bloomington, so I can't lie, the convenience of going to school without relocating was very appealing.”
What parts of the Kelley MBA program did you enjoy most and why?
“For programming, I loved the Consumer Marketing Academy and the Leadership Academy. CMA gave me a great foundation in marketing so I could hit the ground running in my internship and then in a full-time marketing role. Leadership Academy really changed how I thought about leadership and I incorporate the tools and strategies that are more focused on a coaching style now.”
