A. HARDY
Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“My military career as an Infantryman provided a strong foundation in leadership, progressing from a conscientious follower to a servant leader as an NCO. To complement this with a comprehensive understanding of core business functions – specifically financials, accounting, logistics, and strategy – essential for broader organizational impact, I pursued an MBA after earning a graduate degree in Information Systems.”
What parts of the Fisher MBA program did you enjoy most and why?
"I truly enjoyed the Fisher WPMBA's unique flexibility, which is crucial for balancing my young family, a business startup, and Army Reserve commitments. While offering the richer academic experience of a traditional MBA, something not offered in an EMBA program, the format provided invaluable opportunities to collaborate on impactful research and peer-reviewed publications with faculty across Fisher, Glenn, and Engineering colleges."
How has the Fisher MBA helped in your career path?
"I've found the Fisher MBA curriculum incredibly practical, directly applicable to the challenges of growing a small business and, in some ways, speeding up the learning curve. Furthermore, the program's emphasis on academic exploration has opened doors for me to partner with The Ohio State University on potential R&D opportunities and contribute to peer-reviewed publication efforts in multiple disciplines, which has been a significant and unexpected benefit."

Why did you pursue an MBA after the military?
“I pursued an MBA after the military because I wanted to accelerate my transition to a business setting and leverage the network of a major university. This decision has opened lots of doors for me and shown me how to better translate my numerous military leadership opportunities and other skills into what companies are looking for in a candidate. I truly believe the Fisher MBA has given me all the tools I need to excel post-graduation.”
What parts of the Fisher MBA program did you enjoy most and why?
“Although Covid put a damper on the amount of "in-person" activities and events we could attend, I really enjoyed the smaller cohort and personal relationships with my classmates and professors. Rather than fierce competition between us, our class was always trying to help each other both academically and professionally with internship or job searches which I believe led to phenomenal outcomes for everyone. Additionally, the smaller cohort led to great accessibility with the professors, and it wasn't uncommon to email a professor at night with a question and get a response back immediately which was a tremendous resource in our busy study schedules.”
How has the Fisher MBA helped in your career path?
“The Fisher MBA has been one of the best decisions I have made in my entire life. It allowed me to sharpen the skills I learned in the military while adding new skills based in business. The friendships, networking, career services, and general esteem that OSU is held in with large companies opened doors and opportunities for me that I never would have had otherwise."
