Why an MBA?

 “It also became clear to me, while transitioning, that I had strong leadership experience and an interesting elevator pitch, but I was lacking the business acumen that would round out my profile. I needed to be able to show a company that I had the necessary business skills to add immediate value in the tactical, day-to-day operation of a business. Business school was the most logical path to credibly gain those skills in a short-period of time.”

Why Boston College?
I found the tremendous amount of pride and selflessness within the BC community appealing. It feels like a large fraternity and the atmosphere reminds me of the “espirit de corps” found in successful military units; when you meet other BC people, there is an instant connection and a mutual understanding and respect.

Why an MBA?

 “It had always been my intention to go back to school after the Army, though I originally thought it would be law school. When I decided to leave the service, I started researching what I wanted to do next. Every career that interested me was in the finance, so an MBA made a lot of sense. I had a leadership background from the Army. I just needed to acquire the technical skills”

Why Boston College?
I attended BC for undergrad, so it was a bit of a homecoming for me. I loved the school and knew it to be a challenging academic institution with smart, caring people. From my undergraduate years, I knew that BC had a strong finance program. Several of my undergrad friends were doing well on Wall Street following their four years at BC. As a result it felt like a great fit for me.

JOHN HARRINGTON

BIO

 After graduating from college, John served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. After ETS’ing, he went back to school to complete and MBA and eventually worked for both the General Accounting Office and NASA. In 1970, we was hired by the American League to be its controller and eventually took a treasurer position with the Boston Red Sox. In 1992, he effectively became CEO of the team after ownership transferred to the Yawkey Trust.

Under Harrington’s leadership the team compiled one of the best records in baseball; The team won the 1986 ALCS; won the AL East in 1988, 1990 and 1995; and won the Wild Card in 1998 and 1999.
